Mexico has the margarita, Puerto Rico has the piña colada, and in St. Thomas we are lucky enough to call the Painkiller Cocktail ours. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds. A painkiller is a tropical rum-based drink with roots that bring you back to the British Virgin Islands. Made with rum, pineapple juice, coconut, and orange juice, a painkiller is as refreshing as it gets.
On our food tour, you don’t just get to taste this island staple, but you actually get to make it yourself at Side Street Cafe. You even get to take the recipe home with you!
Ingredients
2 oz of dark rum (authentic Painkillers are often made with Pusser’s rum, but any dark rum will do)
4 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
1 oz cream of coconut
Nutmeg
Directions
In a cocktail shaker add all of the liquid ingredients and shake until well mixed. Pour mixture in a glass with ice, top with nutmeg, and enjoy!
