Did your visit to St. Thomas induce a new appetite for Caribbean Cuisine? Well, we have the solution for you. Check out the latest Caribbean cookbook by a local St. Thomas celebrity chef, Julius Jackson. If his name sounds familiar, that’s because he is a professional boxer known as “The Chef” and he has also appeared on the television show, The Kitchen. Born and raised right on the island of St. Thomas, he is also the head chef and manger of My Brother’s Workshop Bakery and Cafe, runs a catering company, has an event management business, and is a husband and father. In 2018, at the age of 30, Julius released his first cookbook entitled “My Modern Caribbean Kitchen.”
The cookbook features 70 fresh takes on island favorites. Some of his fabulous recipes include No-Mess Curry Chicken, Kallaloo Pasta, and Carnival Beef Paté. Every bite will bring you right back to the island. He also features local West Indian drinks, including Tamarind Juice, Sorrel Mango Drink, and every local’s go-to morning drink, Breakfast Bush Tea. The cookbook is great for those who miss the flavors of the Caribbean and want to share a little piece of the islands with their family and friends.
“My Modern Caribbean Kitchen” can be found on Amazon, offered in paperback or for your Kindle. And if you ever make a trip back to St. Thomas, you may just run into “The Chef” eating at one of the local restaurants.
